Borrowed from Korean 최(崔) (Choe), assimilated in Russian in relation to Koreans living in the former USSR.

  • Normally, the Korean surname 최(崔) (Choe), which is the source, is transliterated in Russian as Чхве (Čxvɛ), especially for Koreans living in Korea (North or South) and in turn, the surname of the Russian Korean singer Viktor Tsoi is transliterated in Korean as 초이 (Choi), see 빅토르 초이.
