Ultimately from Ancient Greek Αὐγείας (Augeías, Augeas) +‎ -ев (-ev, adjectival suffix).

Usage notes[edit]

  • Principally only found in the collocation авгиеви обори (avgievi obori, Augean stables). Use referring directly to king Augeas or anyone else by the same name is much rarer.
  • Does not bear the meaning of "Herculean", nor of "filthy", as in English.
