Etymology[edit]

By surface analysis, авги́еви (avgíevi, Augean, plural of авги́ев (avgíev)) +‎ обо́ри (obóri, stables, plural of обо́р (obór)).

The cleaning of king Augeas's dirty stables was one of the 12 labors of Hercules; see Augean stables#Etymology for more.
