Etymology

Related to characters from the myths of the people native to Volga-Ural region. There, the Alangasars are considered powerful giants, but are often depicted as stupid in fairy tales. It originates from the name of the ancient Alan-Khazar military alliance. One of the proverbs collected by N. Isanbet says "alangasar alman bi, alymsakly yaman bi" (the tax-collecting Alangasar lord, the greedy evil lord). Historically Alan-Khazars have conquered the Middle Volga region and collected taxes from subordinate nations.[1]
