Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mordvinic *arśəms, possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *arwa (price, value). Compare Finnish arvo (value), arvata (to guess), Estonian aru (reason). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hargʰás, whence Sanskrit अर्घ (argha, worth, value).
