Inherited from Old Slovak biť, from Proto-Slavic *biti. Cognate with Slovak biť. A distant doublet of бес (bes).

Verb

биц (bic) impf

1. (transitive) to beat, to hit

   биє ме жима ― bije me žima ― I have a fever (literally, “the winter is hitting me”)

   биц на дакого ― bic na dakoho ― to attack someone (literally, “to beat on someone”)

   биц з даким ― bic z dakim ― to be on someone's side (literally, “to beat with someone”)

2. (intransitive) to strike, to beat
3. (transitive) to beat, to bludgeon (to punish with a mallet, etc.)
4. (transitive, figurative) to not give peace

   биє ме ― bije me ― it doesn't give me peace (literally, “it hits me”)
