Etymology[edit]

Akin to Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆𐰞𐰍𐰀 (b¹ul¹ǧa, to stir up), from Proto-Turkic *bulgar + -инъ (-inŭ), the former being the active noun/adjective of *bulga- (to create a state of disorder; to stir, to disturb).
