Etymology[edit]

From *кра (*kra, ice floe) +‎ -ига (-iha, diminutive suffix). Inherited from Old East Slavic кра (kra), derived from икра́ (ikrá), from Proto-Slavic *jьkrà. Cognate with archaic Russian кра (kra) and Old Czech kra.
