Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mongolic *gaxursun (stubble, chaff, shaft of a feather), see Mongolian гуурс (guurs, tube, quill). Cognate with Bashkir ҡауырһын (qawırhın, feather), Kazakh қауырсын (qauyrsyn, feather), and Kyrgyz куурсун (kuursun, stem of feather).
