Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *dˡon (lip). Perhaps related to Ket лёсь (lōsʲ, vulva), itself from Proto-Yeniseian *dˡos ~ *dˡot (vulva).[1]

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): [lʲoˑn˧], [ɮʲoˑn˧]

Noun

[edit]

лён (lōnn (plural лёняӈ)

  1. lip

Usage notes

[edit]
  • Both лён and its plural лёняӈ can be used to refer to lips, especially in the Southern Ket varieties, where the latter is more common.
  • Both лён and лөн are used across Ket varieties, the former representing a palatalized and the latter representing a depalatalized pronunciation of the anlaut, depending on the speaker.
