Mongolian

Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Mongolic *nokaï, probably a derivation of Proto-Mongolic *noka with further Para-Mongolic cognates.

Compare Dongxiang nogvei, Daur nogw, Para-Mongolic Khitan [Khitan Small needed] (ńiqo), 捏褐 (niehe), Tungusic Evenki некэ̄ (ņekə̄, sable), Jurchen nieha (puppy, small dog), Manchu ᠨᡳᠣᡥᡝ (niohe, wolf) and maybe Korean 너구리 (neoguri, raccoon dog).
