Borrowed from French polythéisme, from Ancient Greek πολύς (polús, many) and θεός (theós, god). With -ї́зм (-jízm) suffix. Compare Russian политеи́зм (politeízm), Belarusian палітэі́зм (paliteízm), Polish politeizm.
