From Old Church Slavonic прѢзьрѢти (prĚzĭrĚti), analyzable as прѣ- (prě-) +‎ зьрѭ (zĭrjǫ), akin to today’s пере- (pere-) +‎ зреть (zretʹ) . See Proto-Slavic *zьrěti for more.
