пярэсты
Belarusian
Etymology
Сognate with Ukrainian пері́стий (perístyj, “variegated”), Czech peřestý (“variegated”). Maybe:
- From Proto-Slavic *pьstrъ with metathesis (in which case cognate with Russian пёстрый (pjóstryj)).
- From Proto-Slavic *perestъ (“feathered; variegated”), from *pero (“feather”) + *-estъ. But this suffix is rare/unusual (cp. *-itъ/*-istъ, *-atъ/*-astъ in Upper Sorbian pjeraty, pjerity, Ukrainian перна́тий (pernátyj), пір'я́стий (pirʺjástyj, “feathered”), пери́стий (perýstyj, “feathered; variegated”)).
