From Proto-Turkic *čiāk (“time; precisely, exactly”) — see Kazakh шақ (şaq, “time”), Kyrgyz чак (cak), for more cognates — making this word a false cognate with Russian час (čas, “time, hour”), itself the source of Yakut чаас (caas, “hour”).
