Bulgarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *strěľati, cognate with Macedonian стрела (strela), Serbo-Croatian стриjѐљати, Slovene strẹ́ljati, Russian стреля́ть (streljátʹ), Polish strzelać.

Originally, the verb referred only to shooting/propelling arrows (with a bow or a swing). Over time, it started being used for conveying shooting of any type of missile, including firing modern guns.
