From Proto-Turkic *takïr (level, smooth; bald, devoid of vegetation).

Cognate with Kazakh тақыр (taqyr), Tatar, Kyrgyz, Southern Altai такыр (takır), Uzbek taqir, Khakas тахыр (taxır, bald; devoid of vegetation), etc.
