From Proto-Slavic *tesla / *teslo (“adze”), from Proto-Indo-European *tetḱ-dʰlo-, from *tetḱ-.
Cognate with Serbo-Croatian те̏сла, Polish ciosła, Old Norse þexla (“axe”), Old High German dehsala (“axe, adze”).
