From Old Russian темьанъ (θυμίαμα; Хож. игум. Дан., Иларион), Church Slavonic темьꙗнъ — same as Ancient Greek θυμίαμα "incense for smoking", further from θυμιάω "to burn incense, to burn, to smoke (something)", from Proto-Indo-European *dheu-/*dhūw- "to scatter like dust, to raise dust, to fill the air with dust, to smoke"
