Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Old Ossetic *cæfxaδ, metathesized from *cæxfaδ, from earlier *cægfaδ, from *cæg (ring) +‎ *faδ (foot),[1][2] from Proto-Ossetic *faδi, from Proto-Scythian *páδi, from Proto-Iranian *pā́dah. Equivalent to цӕг (cæg, ring) +‎ фад (fad, foot).
