Erzya[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly a Baltic loanword. Compare Latvian sēbrs (friend), Lithuanian sėbras (companion). Proto-Finnic *sëpra may be borrowed from the same Baltic root.

Alternatively, borrowed from Russian шабёр (šabjór).
