Etymology

From *yalañač (nude, naked), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *jạlɨŋ (naked; lone, solitary), whence also яңғыҙ (yañğıź).

Cognate with Kazakh жалаңаш (jalañaş), Kyrgyz жылаңач (jılaŋac), Southern Altai јалаҥаш (ǰalaŋaš, naked, nude), Crimean Tatar calanğaş (naked, barefoot), Uyghur يالاڭاچ (yala'ngach) / يالاڭغاچ (yalangghach, bare, naked), etc.
