Etymology[edit]

From Old Turkic jalγuz, jalïŋuz, jalŋuz, etc., from Proto-Turkic *jạlɨŋ(naked; lone, solitary).

The development of medial consonant cluster -lğ- → -ŋğ- is paralleled in Tuvan (чаңгыс(čaŋgıs)), and Kyrgyz, Karachay-Balkar (жаңгыз(ǵañgïz)), etc.
