From Proto-Turkic *īŕ (trace; furrow).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (iz, footmark, footprint); Uzbek iz (footmark, footprint), Turkish iz (footmark, footprint), Tuvan ис (is, footmark, footprint), etc.
