Etymology

Inherited from Old Ruthenian изю́мъ (izjúm). A Turkic loanword, ultimately from Proto-Turkic *yüŕüm (grape). Compare Russian изю́м (izjúm, raisin). Cognate with Ottoman Turkish اوزوم (üzüm, grape), Uyghur ئۈزۈم (üzüm), Turkish üzüm, Azerbaijani үзүм (üzüm), Chuvash иҫӗм (iś̬ĕm), Kazakh жүзім (jüzım), Tatar йөзем (yözem), Uzbek uzum.
