Bashkir

Бер үркәсле дөйә.
A one-humped camel.

Etymology

From *örkäč "camel's hump", probably derived from Proto-Turkic *ȫr- (to rise).

Cognate with Tatar өркәч (örkäç, camel's hump), Kazakh өркеш (örkeş, camel's hump), Kyrgyz өркөч (örköc, camel's hump), Southern Altai ӧркӧч (örköč, camel's hump), Uzbek oʻrkach (camel's hump), Uyghur ئوركەچ (orkech, camel's hump);

should be kept separate from *örküč, as atested in Turkmen örküç (camel's hump), Turkish hörgüç (camel's hump).

  • IPA(key): [ʏrˈkæs]
  • Hyphenation: үр‧кәс
