Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably related to Hittite [script needed] ‎(šalpa-), [script needed] ‎(šalpi, dung?) and derived from Proto-Indo-European *sal-bʰo- ‎(dirty) (the o-stem) and Proto-Indo-European *sal-bʰi- ‎(dirt, excrement) (the i-stem), from Proto-Indo-European *solH- ‎(dirt, dirty). Alternatively, the Hittite and Armenian words are from Proto-Indo-European *selpo- and cognate to Sanskrit सर्पिष् ‎(sarpíṣ-, molten butter, lard), German Salbe ‎(ointment).

Noun[edit]

աղբ ‎(ałb)

  1. excrement, dung, feces
  2. muck, manure
աղբ արկանեl‎ ― ałb arkanel ― to manure, to muck
