Etymology
A (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "MIr." is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. borrowing; compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾpwlyt), 𐫀𐫛𐫇𐫡𐫏𐫅 (ʾpwryd /appurēd/, “to steal, carry off”). Ačaṙean explains the Iranian formation as *apa- (“away”) + *par- (“to pass”), comparing Avestan 𐬥𐬌-𐬞𐬁𐬭𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (ni-pāraiieiti, “to appropriate something”) and Sanskrit अपपरे (apa-pare, “to go off”). Note also dialectal Turkish aparmak (“to take away”).
