Etymology

A (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "MIr." is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. borrowing; compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾpwlyt), 𐫀𐫛𐫇𐫡𐫏𐫅 (ʾpwryd /⁠appurēd⁠/, to steal, carry off). Ačaṙean explains the Iranian formation as *apa- (away) + *par- (to pass), comparing Avestan 𐬥𐬌-𐬞𐬁𐬭𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (ni-pāraiieiti, to appropriate something) and Sanskrit अपपरे (apa-pare, to go off). Note also dialectal Turkish aparmak (to take away).
