From Parthian *bazmak, attested as Manichaean Parthian bzmg (*bazmag, lamp), from Iranian *ba(r)zm(ak), from Old Iranian *br̥z-ma(-ka), from *br̥z-, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰl̥ǵ-, a by-form of *bʰl̥g-; cognate with Latin fulgeo, Ancient Greek φλέγω (phlégō), Latvian blāzma. Classical Syriac ܡܙܡܟܐ (mazm(ə)ḵā(ʾ), lamp) is also from Iranian.
