Etymology[edit]

Through Proto-Indo-European these are related to Sanskrit द्रप्स ‎(drapsá, flag), द्रापि ‎(drāpí, mantle, gown), Italian drappo, French drapeau, English drape, Ancient Greek δρέπω ‎(drépō, I pluck), Russian драпать ‎(drapatʹ), etc.
