Armenian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

A dialectal word recorded in Erzurum.[1] Amatuni normalizes the spelling to *երնջակ (*ernǰak),[2] but this is incorrect in view of the etymology.

Borrowed from a dialectal form of Turkish örümcek (spider; spiderweb). Note especially Maçka dialect erimcak.[3]

Doublet of էրունջէկ (ērunǰēk) in Yerznka dialect.

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /eɾənˈd͡ʒɑk/, [eɾənd͡ʒɑ́k]

Noun

[edit]

էրնջակ (ērnǰak)

  1. (dialectal, Erzurum) spider
    Synonym: սարդ (sard)
