Reduplication of *թուր- (*tʻur-), from Proto-Indo-European *tōr-, from *terh₁- (to rub, turn), whence թուր (tʻur, sword); among the cognates compare especially Ancient Greek τερηδών (terēdṓn), Latin tarmes (woodworm), Lithuanian trandẽ (maggot).[1][2][3][4]
