An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [script needed] (klcng), 𐫞𐫏𐫡𐫉𐫗𐫃(qyrzng /kerzang/), Persian خرچنگ(xarčang), Central Kurdish قرژاڵ(qirjall), قرژانگ(qirjang), Southern Kurdish قِرژِنگ(qirjing, crab).[1][2][3] Doublet of Middle Armenian քարժանկ (kʿaržank).
