Etymology[edit]

From հուր ‎(hur, fire) +‎ *դեհ ‎(*deh, burning, combustion). The latter is of unknown origin, perhaps borrowed from some descendant of Proto-Indo-European *dʰegʷʰ- ‎(to burn); compare especially Sanskrit दहति ‎(dahati).
