Etymology

From մեռ- (meṙ-), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *mer-s-, sigmatic aorist of *mer- (to die), +‎ -ան- (-an-).

Verb

մեռանիմ (meṙanim)  (aorist indicative մեռայ)

  1. to die, to expire, to breathe one's last, to give up the ghost, to depart this life, to pay the last debt to nature
    մահու մեռանելmahu meṙanelto be punished with death, to suffer capital punishment
    մեռանել ի մարտ պատերազմիmeṙanel i mart paterazmito die on the breach, to be slain in action
    մեռանել ի վերայ ազգին, ի սէր հայրենեացmeṙanel i veray azgin, i sēr hayreneacʻto die for one's country
    մեռանել քաջութեամբ, պատուովmeṙanel kʻaǰutʻeamb, patuovto die on the field of honor
    մերձ է ի մեռանելmerj ē i meṙanelhe is at the last gasp, he is expiring, dying
    որպէս կեայ ոք այնպէս եւ մեռանիorpēs keay okʻ aynpēs ew meṙanipeople generally die as they live
