Etymology[edit]

Cognate with Ancient Greek -άνω (-ánō), which was added to many verbs that already had a nasal infix, e.g. λιμπάνω (limpánō, to be absent).

  2. forming inchoative verbs
    չորանամ‎ ― čʿoranamto grow dry

Usage notes[edit]

A very productive suffix. Often used to remake already-existing verbs, as in անիծանեմ (anicanem), հարցանեմ (harcʿanem), լքանեմ (lkʿanem).
