Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *ḱul- +‎ -ան- ‎(-an-). Cognate with Albanian sulem ‎(to attack) and perhaps Russian слать ‎(slatʹ, to send).

Verb[edit]

սլանամ ‎(slanam)  (aorist indicative սլացայ)

  1. to soar, to take a lofty flight, to fly high
  2. to rush, to dart, to rush on, upon or down
    սլացեալ աստղ‎ ― slacʿeal astł ― falling star
