Etymology

Inherited from Middle High German unheimlich, from Old High German *unheimlīh. By surface analysis, אומ־ (um-) +‎ היימלעך (heymlekh), further from היים (heym) +‎ ־לעך (-lekh). Compare German unheimlich.
