Cognates are Assyrian Neo-Aramaic ܒܝܼܪܬܵܐ (bīrtā, “palace, fortress”), Classical Syriac ܒܝܼܪܬܵܐ (bīrtā, “palace, fortress”), Armenian բերդ (berd, “fortress”).
