- (intransitive) To start, to begin.
- 11th century, Rashi, “Devarim 11:19”, in Commentary on the Torah:
- כשהתינוק מתחיל לדבר אביו מסיח עמו בלשון הקדש ומלמדו תורה
- When the infant begins to speak, his father should speak to him in Lashon Hakodesh and teach him Torah.
- (transitive) To start, to begin.
