Etymology

Probably cognate to German Troddel; if so, inherited from Middle High German trāde, from Old High German trādo, trāda (thread, fringe, hem, tassel).[1] May have come from an intermediate form *טראָדל (*trodl), from late Middle High German trādel,[2] altered via metathesis.
