Etymology

Perhaps from הוֹשֵׁעַ (hōšḗaʿ, Hosea) with the "addition" of יהוה (Yahweh), therefore meaning "Yahweh is salvation". See הוֹשִׁיעַ (hoshía', to save). Compare with יְשַׁעְיָהוּ (yəšaʿyā́hū).
