Hebrew[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Perhaps from הוֹשֵׁעַ(hōšḗaʿ, Hosea) with the "addition" of יהוה(YHWH (Yahweh)), therefore meaning "Yahweh is salvation". See הוֹשִׁיעַ(hoshía', to save). Compare with יְשַׁעְיָהוּ(yəšaʿyā́hū).
