[edit]Etymology
[edit]From יִשְׁמַע (yishmá', yišmaʿ) + אֵל ('él, ʾēl), literally "God will listen".
The medieval use of "Ishmael" as a term for Muslims was from Islam being from Arabia, as Ishmael was considered as the ancestor of the Arabs.
