From Middle High German kübel, from Old High German kubilo or kubelen pl, from Medieval Latin cupellus (diminutive of cūpa), from Latin cūpella possibly via Franco-Provençal cubel (small tub).[1][2] Related to קובעל (kubel, coop, tub), קובל (kubl, cask, barrel). Compare German Kübel, English kibble.
