From Parthian *𐫤𐫀𐫃 (*tʾg /⁠tāg⁠/), attested in 𐫟𐫀𐫡𐫤𐫀𐫃 (xʾrtʾg /⁠xārtāg⁠/, crown of thorns). Compare Arabic تاج (tāj) and Old Armenian թագ (tʻag), also borrowed from Iranian.
