Hebrew

Etymology

Root
י־ר־ה (y-r-h)

From Proto-Semitic *tawrawat-, from verbal root w-r-w "to throw, cast, lead, guide"[1]. Compare Aramaic אוֹרַיְתָא (ʾōrayṯā), Ge'ez ኦሪት (ʾorit). Arabic تَوْرَاة (tawrāh) is a Hebrew borrowing.
