[edit]Inherited from Old Hindi अठ (aṭha) (with the vowel lengthened possibly under influence of other regional forms), from Apabhramsa अट्ठ (aṭṭha), from Prakrit 𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀞 (aṭṭha), from Sanskrit अष्ट (aṣṭa).
