Etymology

Related to the verb أَنُثَ (ʔanuṯa, to be feminine). Has the form of a feminine elative. Cognate with Ugaritic 𐎀𐎘𐎚 (aṯt, wife), Aramaic ܐܢܬܬܐ (antatā, wife), Akkadian 𒁮 (aššatu, wife).
