From Arabic عَبْد (ʕabd, servant) + Arabic ال (al-, definite article), a common Muslim name prefix, found in names such as Arabic عَبْدُ ٱللّٰه (ʕabdu llāh, servant of God), Arabic عَبْدُ اللَطِيف (ʕabdu l-laṭīf, servant of The kind (God)).
