Etymology[edit]
From Arabic عَبْد (ʕabd, “servant”) + Arabic ال (al-, “definite article”), a common Muslim name prefix, found in names such as Arabic عَبْدُ ٱللّٰه (ʕabdu llāh, “servant of God”), Arabic عَبْدُ اللَطِيف (ʕabdu l-laṭīf, “servant of The kind (God)”).
